From 2001 to 2009, Darkest Hour released five albums through Victory Records before bouncing around from E1 to Sumerian, and ultimately going solo. Now Darkest Hour frontman John Henry revealed to the Lead Singer Syndrome podcast that he thinks Victory is the "worst label on Earth," and that the band has never received any royalty checks from them either.
“We were one of the few bands that completed a Victory contract. Five albums, yeah, ten years baby. Still haven’t seen a royalty check.”
“Hundreds of thousands of units SoundScanned—not one penny. Maybe someday, we’ll get something from them—not that it’s all about the money or anything…”
Henry also says he never really talks to Victory founder Tony Brummels, and that Brummels "refuses to talk to our manager too" and only communicates with guitarist Mike Schleibaum. It'll be interesting to see if Victory responds to this publicly or not, considering the label just lost a $4 million lawsuit against A Day To Remember.
