COREY TAYLOR & JIM ROOT Are Talking About Starting A New Side Project

"It's cool to find your friend again and realize that you can find your way back to people that you care about."

Taylor Root

Corey Taylor and Jim Root have been Slipknot bandmates for over two decades at this point, and were Stone Sour bandmates until 2014. There was some bad blood between the two at the time of the Stone Sour split, though in a 2019 interview Root said he and Taylor were much closer and that "we would have just ended up killing each other and driving each other crazy" if they hadn't parted ways.

Now in an interview with Metal Hammer, Taylor said he and Root are getting along very well and are talking about doing a brand new side project. Taylor mentioned that he's extremely happy about finding his way back to being friends with Root, and that he's certainly responsible for at least some of the bad feelings between the two.

"He and I are very different people and we were both going through our own shit in life," said Taylor. "We reconnected, and we're actually talking about doing some stuff on the side, outside of Slipknot and Stone Sour. It's cool to find your friend again and realize that you can find your way back to people that you care about.

"Honestly, I can't sit here and say that I wasn't responsible for some of the bad feelings. That can only come with self-reflection, and the fact that the things that were going on in my life rippled and affected other people. Once you own up to that, you can start to mend bridges by showing people that you are truly sorry."

Maybe they'll use some of the material from Slipknot's unreleased album Look Outside Your Window? For those unfamiliar, Look Outside Your Window was recorded in 2008 during the All Hope Is Gone sessions by percussionist Shawn Crahan, vocalist Corey Taylor, guitarist Jim Root, and DJ Sid Wilson. The album has been described as having "more of a Radiohead vibe" and remains unreleased.
