Circle Takes The Square has always been one one of those game-changing bands (like Botch) that came, conquered, confused, and left before they were ever truly understood. They started as a GA based band (before bands like Mastodon and Baroness made it cool) and showcased their brand of disheveled, volatile opus arrangements (before the term "progressive" was thrown around). Then just sort of faded one day, before anyone really knew what they were trying to achieve. The band never scheduled another release after their debut, and I've heard rumors that the band had since broken up. Well I'm happy to report the band is not only still around, but they have just released their first new recordings in over seven years!
The EP ,entitled Chapter 1. Rites of Initiation, is a 4 song collection that serves as a single chapter of what will later create a full LP, entitled Decompositions Volume 1., that will be fully realized in November 2011. In case you were wondering, it's pretty fucking awesome. Clearly time, and the fact the band now hails from all over the US, has not affected the band's original brand of weirdness. Don't take my word for it though, head over to the their bandcamp page where you can preview and purchase the EP for yourself.
