D'oh! Well, being a selfish prick, I'm glad I got to see Overkill last week, but if your date of the Dark Roots of Thrash tour hasn't come around yet, you won't be so lucky.
Overkill were forced to cancel their Long Island gig last week, when Bobby Blitz was diagnosed with walking pneumonia. He was advised not to perform with the fear that the illness could get worse if he did. Blitz sat out, and then performed the next night in Massachusetts, which didn't help. It seems as though his condition worsened enough to the point that the band had to drop off the tour. They released this statement:
"Due to an illness in the band, Overkill has canceled the remainder of its shows on 'The Dark Roots Of Thrash' tour in February. After some time for recovery, we'll be back out in the spring for our Scandinavian tour. See you then!!"
"Blitz's condition has gotten slightly worse [after Saturday's show in Worcester, Massachusetts] and he needs some time to get back to 100%. We would like to thank TESTAMENT for a great tour and look forward to everyone back on the road soon."
While the band was definitely a force and a great prescence on the tour, this tour is still must-see just to catch Testament melting faces with their near-perfect performances. The remaining dates for The Dark Roots of Thrash tour with Testament, Floatsam & Jetsam and 4Arm can be found here.
