At the tail end of last week, we got really excited at a rumor that was started that Carcass may be working on new material to release next year. The main point of interest of the story was that while there was to be new Carcass, the band needed a new drummer since their fill-in for the reunion tour, Daniel Erlandsson, was busy with Arch Enemy. The rumor was that the position would go to Heaven Shall Burn drummer Matthias Voigt. I guess nobody checked with Voigt, because he denies being a part of the project.
In a post on the official Heaven Shall Burn Facebook page, the band made the following statement:
Blabbermouth.net [the site that broke the rumor] is really cool, but sometimes rumors are just rumors. HSB Matthias is 100% NOT playing for CARCASS!
Everybody in HSB maintains the status as devoted Carcass-fan and does not even dare to dream of being involved with this legend!
I can't see a reason for Voigt to flat-out lie about this, because if he was lying, it'd look really bad when the news came out that he is a part of the band. So, he's not the drummer. Does this mean that Carcass is not recording a new album? Not necessarily but it certainly brings into question who their drummer might be if they are working on new music.
