Is CARCASS Working On A New Album?

Legendary metal act Carcass reunited in 2008 and everybody who knew about the band went apeshit. They were one of the most named bands in our On The Record special on reunions. Naturally, the next question was would we hear music from the band?

When I interviewed guitarist Michael Ammot in 2010, he stated that while the band has talked about it, he was too focused on his current project Arch Enemy to work on new Carcass music.

So it seems the band is moving on without him.

Blabbermouth is reporting a rumor that the band sans-Amott are in the studio putting the finishing touches on a new album with Colin Richardson behind the boards. The band is aiming for a release in early 2013, most likely to coincide with their appearance at the Maryland Death Fest. The band is currently looking for a label home for the record.

Seeing as though Amott and previous drummer  Daniel Erlandsson are tied up with Arch Enemy duties, Blabbermouth reports the band recruited Matthias Voigt of Heaven Shall Burn to handle drum duties, a position, I am sure, he was more than happy to fill.

Apparently, Ammot even hinted at the new material in an interview this past summer saying:

"I'm not working with Carcass at the moment. From what I hear they're working on something new, but it's not with me. I'm not included in it. I don't know. I don't comment. [laughs] I don't really know what they're working on, so it's not really for me to say, but whatever it is I wish them well, of course. I had a great time doing the reunion shows; we played a lot of shows in 2008, 2009, 2010, and I had a fantastic time at those shows. I'm a very busy guy as well, so I could see why I wouldn't be included. I've pretty much got a full-time thing going on with Arch Enemy, and I'm with Spiritual Beggars on top of that. It's very difficult for me to fit in a third band with touring and everything."

While not having a riff general of Amott's caliber certainly puts a question mark on the new material, you bet your ass I am more than excited at the possibility of hearing new music from the band. New Sabbath and new Carcass in 2013? Wow!
