Putting a boat name to a public vote can be a tricky situation lately, since everyone on the Internet thinks it would be funny to submit Boaty McFuckface (or some X McX variation) for 100,000th time to literally any naming competition.

Fortunately, the good people of King's County in Washington have not failed us! Garnering 178 votes and winning the poll for dubbing a new research vessel was Soundguardian, a name after the state's own Soundgarden. For reference, Cascadia came in second with 126 votes, and SeaKing came in third with 15 votes.

According to GeekWire, the ship will be used “to collect water quality data in Puget Sound, Lake Washington and the Duwamish River. The new vessel, which will replace the 40-year-old Liberty, will be cleaner, more efficient and safer to operate in rough waters.”

So what does Soundgarden think about this? They love it!
