Soulfly recently announced their new record Totem is now streaming the single "Scouring The Vile." The song features John Tardy of Obituary on vocals, and is exactly as heavy as you'd imagine a song with both Max Cavalera and John Tardy would be – just stupid heavy. Cavalera also notes that the song is a "fuck you" to cancer, and lyrically centers around losing loved ones to the disease.
"'Scouring the Vile' is Soulfly's personal fuck you letter to cancer!" said Soulfly mastermind Max Cavalera. "The lyrics are angered by the loss of loved ones. It was amazing to share the vocals with an old veteran, John Tardy of Obituary."
Totem was recorded at Platinum Underground in Mesa Arizona by John Aquilino and Arthur Rizk with assistance from John Powers. The album was produced by Max alongside Arthur Rizk (Kreator, Power Trip, Code Orange) and features additional guest appearances from John Powers (Eternal Champion) and Chris Ulsh (Power Trip). Arthur Rizk was also responsible for playing lead guitar on the record. The artwork for the album was created by James Bousema.
Totem is out August 5. Pre-orders are available here.
