It's Friday the 13th, it's October, and were pretty damn close to Halloween. So it's only fitting that Nine Inch Nails posts an incredibly creepy cover of John Carpenter's famous Halloween theme, right? Here's what Reznor had to say about the cover, and how Halloween impacted him and his friends when they saw it in theaters in 1978. Basically, it left a pretty deep impression on them.
I clearly remember my friends and I at 13 years old conning our parents into letting us see Halloween when it came out in 1978.
We left the theater forever changed. We were damaged and scarred, with the shit genuinely scared out of us and that theme stuck firmly in our heads.
John Carpenter, it’s your fault that I turned out the way I did.
You can download the theme here, and John Carpenter will release a collection of his famous theme songs all re-recorded next Friday under the moniker Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998.
Now go forth and get spooky.
