Hvile I Kaos is an orchestral project helmed by California-based multi-instrumentalist and composer Chris "Kakophonix" Brown, who has provided session work for several black metal bands including Abigail Williams, Wolvhammer, Chrome Waves and others.
Dubbed "black ritual chamber musick," the solo effort is releasing Black Morning, Winter Green on Dec. 6 via Red Nebula.
The first track, "An Inviting Afterglow," could seriously be the soundtrack to just about any Cormac McCarthy novel. It's a gut-wrenching journey into a person's darkest sorrows, and, boy, is it great.
Think Apocalyptica, 2CELLOS or Godspeed You! Black Emperor, but more likely to cover Bathory than Metallica.
Norwegian for "to rest in chaos," Hvile I Kaos is black metal at heart and in its direction, and the music written by Kakophonix shows just that.
