HERE LIES MAN's Afrobeat Heaviness Will Bring You "That Much Closer To Nothing"

"What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat?"

"What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat?"

Here Lies Man took the world by storm with their self-titled debut album in 2017, which explored the simple question of "What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat?" Now the band is back with their new album You Will Know Nothing and we're more than stoked to give you all the instrumental debut single "That Much Closer To Nothing." While the album isn't instrumental, the single explores the slower and darker depths of Here Lies Man's sound.

Here's what multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Marcos Garcia had to say about the album and its focus on the clave rhythms.

"There are interludes between each song that are 2/3 to 3/4 of the tempo of the previous song. The reason it breaks down to 2 over 3 or 3 over 4 is that everything in the music rhythmically corresponds to a set of mathematical algorithms known as the clave. The clave is an ancient organizing rhythmic principle developed in Africa."

You Will Know Nothing was recorded by Garcia and drummer Geoff Mann, both members of Antibalas, at their own L.A. studio on a Tascam 388 8-track tape machine. Congas were recorded by percussionists Richard Panta and Reinaldo DeJesus, interludes were recorded with former Antibalas keyboardist Victor Axelrod, and the album's mix was split between engineer Jeremy Page mixing the drums and the band tackling the remainder.

You Will Know Nothing is out June 15 and you can also catch them on tour with Earthless at one of the dates below. Pre-order physical copies here and digital here.
