Devildriver's upcoming outlaw country covers album Outlaws 'Til The End has been teased and teased, but now you can finally hear some music from it! The band covered Hank III's track "Country Heroes" with Hank III himself on vocals.
Devildriver have certainly taken some liberties with the track in reinventing it to be much heavier than the original. Here's what vocalist Dez Fafara had to say about the cover and having Hank III as a guest.
"This record would not have meant as much to me without having Hank III on board. He is one of the most authentic and real outlaw country artists out there right now. I chose to record “Country Heroes” because the lyrics are extremely well-written, and using the names of all the outlaws within the song really does the song justice. ‘I’m drinking some George Jones and little bit a Coe…’ etc., that is genius writing from Hank III and should be recognized as such.” “I’ve heard this song as ‘heavy’ in my head for a very long time, so to re-track it and have Hank III appear only to sing almost Ozzy-ish is just an over the top treat to the ears! Enjoy!"
Outlaws 'Til The End is out July 6. I you're still a little lost on what outlaw country is as a genre, Devildriver and their numerous guests on the album have taken the time to explain it to you here. Outlaws 'Til the End will feature guest appearances from artists such as Hank Williams III, Lamb of God's Randall Blythe and Mark Morton, Fear Factory's Burton C. Bell, Fear's Lee Ving, and 36 Crazyfists's Brock Lindow.
