I talked about how great a doom band Commoner was in 2022 with the release of their debut EP I, and I'm back to do it again in 2024.
Commoner is now streaming their new single "Bacteria" from their upcoming full length A Commoners Quest due out March 28, and once again – you need to listen to Commoner. These guys have such a fantastic grasp on how to write a doom riff, how to write a doom song that stays engaging, and how to incorporate that crusty punk feel without making you wonder where the hell the song is going.
On the single, Commoner guitarist and vocalist Mik said: "'Bacteria' is a song about the scale of significance of the Human race compared to the vast cosmos we were spawned from, our existence is nothing short of a miracle, yet our lives are brief, our society ever changing and our understanding of our existence is elusive at best.
"It begs the question do we matter at all? It's a song about the mystery of existence and the realisation we aren't here forever, our lives are in constant flux, all is chaos, your experience is all you got, make the most of it!"
A Commoners Quest features drums recorded at Holy Mountain Studios Hackney, London engineered by Stanley Gravett. Guitars and Vocals were recorded at Foel Studios, Wales, engineered by Chris Fielding. A Commoners Quest was produced by Commoner and Fielding, and mastered by Fielding.
