There has been a lot of progress on transgender issues and acceptance in recent years. With celebrities like Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox in the public spotlight, trans awareness is at an all-time high. We've learned in recent years that terms like "tranny" and "she-male" are offensive and outdated and the proper term is transgender. There are guides and notes published by GLAAD on how to deal with this sensitive issue.
But clearly, none of this new terminology has reached Dave Mustaine. I mean, we've heard the guy's opinion on gay marriage (although he claims he's not a homophobe) and African women who "need to put a plug in it," so I imagine trans issues aren't at the top of his list. Oddly, the issue came up in a roundabout way when Mustaine was being interviewed by Turbo of Rock 100.5 The KATT. When asked to share a fond memory of recently deceased drummer Nick Menza, Mustaine shared a pointless anecdote about Menza's Italian family's cooking and then offered this:
Mustaine: I think probably the funniest thing was when had gone into Paris and had, uh, met, uh [slight pause] some girl guy girl.
Turbo: Oh… obviously, he didn't know.
Mustaine: No, but he was a very outgoing, funny, funny dude.
That was it! That was the fun anecodte.
What the fuck is a "girl guy girl"? Is Mustaine referring to a transgender woman (a person who was born biologically a man, and later transitioned to female)? I'm assuming so. Also, what's the joke? The joke is that he accidently picked up a transgender woman? Also, I'm sure somebody going through all the pain of gender dysphoria, would really appreciate being refered to as such. Naturally, there will be some commenters who will consider me a overly sensitive liberal "cunt," but it's nice to know we can add transphobic to the growing list of reasons why we don't like Dave Mustaine. God forbid we show respect to fellow humans, by addressing them as such as opposed to referring to them as freaks. If anybody, I would think metalheads would be extra sensitive to this issue, seeing as we are always pre-judged based on our looks. Anyway, here's the video of the clip:
I hope somebody asks him what he thinks of the trans bathroom bill soon, for more "girl guy girl" fun.
Needless to say, we had a lot of fun with this clip on the most recent episode of the RIP a Livecast, and spent some time mocking him. Take a listen:
