METALLICA Posting New Song on Halloween, Allowing Fans To Hear It Early If They Wear Masks

Metallica want you to dress up as Metallica for Halloween.

Metallica want you to dress up as Metallica for Halloween.

We've already heard two (excellent) singles from the new Metallica album, Hardwired… To Self Destruct. We heard the title track, as well as "Moth Into Flame". Both tracks came out of nowhere, with no hype. The band just unleashed the fury on an unsuspecting public.

For the third single, Metallica are doing things a bit different. They are giving us a heads-up that the track will be released one week from today, on Halloween at 12pm Pacific time, and they are offering fans an opportunity to hear the song early… an entire half an hour early!

“No surprises this time around! We’re giving you some heads up that we plan to unleash the next track from Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, ‘Atlas, Rise!’ to you streaming online and via your favorite radio station this Halloween (October 31st) at noon PDT. Keep reading for details on how you can hear it early!

“To help you get into the Halloween spirit, starting this Friday, October 28th, fans around the world can visit select independent record stores for the chance to obtain a free limited editionHardwired… To Self-Destruct Halloween mask. Inside of each mask, you’ll find a special access code that will allow you to hear ‘Atlas, Rise!’ 30 minutes prior to its official release on Halloween. “We’re less than a month away now… looking forward to celebrating Halloween with you as we take the next step toward the release of all 12 songs!”

As silly as it seems, I commend Metallica for offering an excuse for their fans to go to a local record shop and grab a free mask, and who knows? Maybe they'll pick up some actual music. It's one of the ways Metallica are always striving to give back to the ecosystem that supports them and honestly, it's hard to hate on them for that at all.

Hardwired comes out November 18. Amazon has the CD on sale for $12.62.
