Unlocking The Truth will finally be releasing its debut LP titled Chaos on June 17 via Tunecore after a very tumultuous relationship with Sony. The band is now seeking to follow up the debut with a documentary titled Breaking A Monster: A Film About Unlocking The Truth about how the band got started to where it is now, and the whole record deal debacle.
I'll let the band explain things a little more:
“BREAKING A MONSTER is a documentary film about the breakout year of the heavy metal band Unlocking The Truth. It follows 12 and 13-year-old members Alec Atkins, Malcolm Brickhouse and Jarad Dawkins as they first encounter stardom and the music industry, transcending childhood to reckon with the realities behind their rockstar dreams. Questions about the balance of art and commerce, perceptions of race and definitions of childhood all emerge on the band’s tumultuous journey.
NOW… Unlocking The Truth‘s debut album will be self-released this June!!! It has been a long and dramatic road leading up to the release of this record, and BREAKING A MONSTER is the behind-the-scenes look at how the industry tried to shape the band before they chose to release their music independently.”
You can check out the Kickstarter for the project right here, which is aiming to garner $55,000. I think my biggest concern about the film is additional content outside what played out in the public eye. How much story is there to tell, you know? That's a legitimate question – I genuinely don't know how much more truth this documentary might unlock, and it seems to be on the path to being made, so we'll see.
