Whether you want it or not, let's face facts here. This would be fucking awesome.

In this week's news of extremely unlikely combinations that would probably turn out to be fucking awesome, Slipknot's Jim Root said in an interview with Metal Hammer that he's trying to get together with Ben Weinman form Dillinger Escape Plan for some kind of supergroup. He says that while he's definitely focusing on doing another Slipknot record, he's still very interested in working with Weinman!

“I’ve been talking to Ben about trying to fire something up with him—Ben from Dillinger—and you know, we may or we may not, it just depends. We’ve been talking for years about trying to do something, but our schedules never line up. So, it just depends, but right now I’m still pretty 100% focused on what we’re doing with this [Slipknot.] I think that needs to be reeled in. I think that more and more we should all be focused a little bit more on what Slipknot is and what we should be doing in Slipknot, rather than spreading ourselves thin with other, you know, projects.”

Even if this doesn't come to fruition and we just get maybe a Weinman solo on a Slipknot, did we really lose? It seems like Root is also dead set on getting a new 'Knot record out in 2016.

“…We’ve been just kind of jamming a little bit, doing a little bit of riff-mining and stuff like that. But I think, you know, it’s really hard to write while you’re on the road; there’s a lot of distractions and it’s just hard to sink into a vibe with it. So, I think the more we continue to jam, we can probably get some riffs and ideas for things, but as far as full arrangements and things like that, that’s gonna have to come… once the touring settles down a little bit. But it’s, you know… It’s a work in progress.”

This wouldn't be the first supergroup for Weinman, as he's working with Mastodon's Brent Hinds and singer/actress Juliette Lewis on a new project named Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, with plans to release music sometime this year.
