Corey Taylor Says It's Still A Little Awkward Between Him And Jim Root

"It kinda still is [awkward]. I try to respect him as much as possible but I feel like it’s worked out for both of us."

Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor recently opened up for the first time about Jim Root's departure from Stone Sour in 2014. Taylor and Root are still bandmates in Slipknot, and considering that Root's split with Stone Sour didn't seem like it went over super well, things might be a little awkward.

Now in an interview with Talk Is Jericho, Taylor says things can be a little awkward now. Of course he feels as though Root is much happier in Slipknot, and he hopes Root's not angry with him.

It kinda still is [awkward]. I try to respect him as much as possible but I feel like it’s worked out for both of us. Because he was always much more happy in Slipknot. And it’s opened us up a lot for whatever reason. We all love him and wish him nothing but the best. Hopefully, he feels the same way for us.

Taylor adds that the split was difficult, that Root seemed unhappy, and "we just had to pull the trigger on it and sometimes you just know. It was difficult."

In 2014, Root was interviewed byAustralia’s Triple J show ‘The Racket, and did not hold back his feelings on being fired, and while he seemed very pissed at Josh Rand, he made it clear he had no problems with Taylor:

"I’ve never had a problem with Corey. You know what I mean? Corey and I understand each other a lot better than anybody else from the other bands could, because we’ve been pulling double duty for all these years. And when you’ve got other people in the bands that you’re in that don’t share that common thing, they could never really understand what it is. And after a while you become spread so thing that it becomes really hard to give a hundred percent to both things, and eventually there comes a time where you have to say, ‘Enough is enough,’ and ‘I need to put my focus a hundred percent into what it is that made this all possible for us.'”
