BRING ME THE HORIZON Frontman Says Modern Rock Music Is Soft, Miserable & Boring

"Rappers are almost the new rock 'n' roll or punk or whatever."

Bring Me The Horizon has evolved quite a bit from their mid-2000s deathcore beginnings to a much more arena-rock-friendly sound that has done the band quite well. In an interview with The Pulse Of Radio, frontman Oli Sykes says it's important the band crossed over from their roots to a place "where people just like music and it's not about how heavy it is."

He also voices a pretty low opinion of modern rock and adds that modern rap is essentially the new rock or punk, depending on how you want to look at it.

"Rappers are almost the new rock 'n' roll or punk or whatever. Rock's gone soft, it's gone miserable and boring, there's not really much exciting about it. So it's important that we cross over, because we feel like we belong more in a place where people just like music and it's not about how heavy it is."

Is there at least a little humor in the fact that Sykes thinks so little of modern rock when he and keyboardist Jordan Fish were hired to write the new Limp Bizkit record in 2017? Then again, who knows what sound they would've gone for.
