Are Slipknot once again not on the same page with regards to the future? The last time this happened, when ex-drummer Joey Jordison wanted to move forward with new material, but other members weren't ready… Jordison got the boot.
Guitarist Jim Root keeps talking about already working on new material for Slipknot and Clown was confident a new album would arrive in early 2017. But the one guy not talking about new material was Corey Taylor, until now. Taylor recently suggested that he thinks the group is going on hiatus after its current tour.
According to Blabbermouth's transcription of an interview with RockSverige, Taylor seems pretty confident about this.
“Well, I mean, we’re gonna finish touring and then we’re gonna take a couple of years off again to, kind of, let everything chill. I’m gonna go do my thing, everybody else’s gonna go, kind of, do their thing. I know Clown‘s got movies that he wants to make, which is very cool. He just wrapped his first feature a couple of months ago, which I’m pretty stoked for him about. So everybody is gonna, kind of, do their thing, and then, in a couple of years, we’ll get back together and see what happens again. Kind of what we used to do… Before we lost Paul, that’s what we would do: we would go for a while and then we would get back together after a couple of years and say, like, ‘All right. What have we got now?’ So I think that’s what we’re gonna do.”
Ugh, crap. I really hope this isn't the case! Slipknot's newest was fucking awesome and we just got the group back after six years of total silence! At the very least, I hope Root and the guys knock out enough material for maybe an EP to drop in 2016 before calling it quits for a little while? As a big fan, I'd much rather not have to wait until 2018 for a new record.
Slipknot are about to embark on their tour with Lamb of God. You better go see them while you still can.
