The metal world was shocked when it was announced on Monday that legendary Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi has been stricken with lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. The news came on the heels of Sabbath's recent reunion announcement, and commitment to a new record and world tour. Many were speculating if Iommi's diagnosis would put things on hold, but according to a statement on his official website, it seems that is not the case:
My fans, friends & colleagues –
I just want to say how overwhelmed I am with all your messages of support, thank you so much.
Well it's not what I wanted for Christmas, that's for sure, but now I can't wait for the test results to come in and get going with the treatment.
It's really good that the guys are coming over so that we can continue working on the album as things are going great in the studio.
Well, not much else to say at this time, so thanks again.<
Bless you all,
Tony
It's exciting that Iommi isn't letting this cancer bullshit stop him from creating new music. I desperately want to see the old Sabbath together, so hopefully, as Brian Posehn phrased it, Iommi can just "kick cancer in it's stupid dick" and we can get back to business.
