The latest on the dismal streaming service payouts to artists is that companies like Spotify and Amazon are suing to keep royalty rates from going up. The Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) recently announced they'd like to raise royalty rates for artists up to 44% over the next four years, but the aforementioned companies aren't too pleased.
In a new advertisement for While She Sleep's new record So What?, the band talks directly to the public about the sobering realities of streaming payouts. For reference, about 1,500 streams equals one album sale these days. So While She Sleeps needs to stream the equivalent of about 2,666 album sales per month to make a living.
