Metallica's movie Through The Never is a box-office bomb in the US market, but one positive side-effect of the non-stop promoting is that all of the band's back catalog has seen a nice bump in sales recently, with six (!) of the band's albums charting this week on the Billboard Hard Rock charts.
The Through the Never soundtrack sold 7,198 this week, with a cumulative total of 44,000 so far, which any metal record label would jump for joy about in today's marketplace.
Meanwhile, the Black Album sold a staggering 2,361 records (which is actually down about 30% from last week's 3k+ haul) with the album closing in on 16 million sold, which should be confirmed in about 6 months at the rate the album is selling.
Another interesting fact is Metallica's Black Album outsold NEW releases from bands like Soulfly, Black Sabbath, Bring Me The Horizon and The Devil Wears Prada. That's insane!
Other charting albums include Master Of Puppets which sold 1,395 copies, …And Justice For All selling 1,383 copies, Ride The Lightning selling 1,327 copies and Kill 'Em All selling 818 copies.
If you add 'em all up, that's basically 15,000 Metallica albums sold this week, which is A LOT!
That's six different Metallica records all charting in the Hard Rock Top 100. If you need evidence of the staying power of Metallica's music, this is it! I guess there's no wonder that the band's music reaches people like Justin Bieber.
