In just 26 weeks, Metallica's album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct has gone platinum. It should be noted that their last full-length release, Death Magnetic hit that milestone in six weeks, but that was all the way back in 2008. Record sales are an entirely different beast nowadays.
It should be noted that the band boosted those numbers by offering a copy of the album with every ticket sold to their summer stadium tour. The tactic saw the album jump to #2 on the Billboard charts in March.
Still, it's a very impressive feat, especially in today's music climate. Metallica celebrated the occassion with a tongue-in-cheek photo shoot. Recently, Metallica launched their own label, Blackened Recordings, which would then put out all the band's recordings.
