Kirk Hammett Defends METALLICA Selling "Blackened" Whiskey, In Light of James Hetfield's Alcohol Recovery

The two shouldn't be compared, according to Kirk.

Kirk Hammett was confronted with a unique question in an interview earlier this week. He was asked about Metallica selling their line of "Blackened" whiskey, all the while James Hetfield is in recovery from alcohol addiction. Hammett thinks the two shouldn't be compared.

The Daily Star posed the question to Hammett, who responded “You can’t compare the two things. James’s struggle to get dry is a completely personal matter mentally and emotionally."

He added "The fact that we produce, bottle and sell alcohol is totally independent of this. It is completely up to you whether you drink or not. And I think I can sell what I want. If I were a diabetic, that wouldn’t mean that I couldn’t sell sweets.”

We agree with Hammett. Hetfield's personal issues shouldn't prevent the band from pursuing ventures that wouldn't really effect his personal issues. It's not like Metallica is forcing James to drink any of the whiskey.

Meanwhile, Blackened Whiskey just announced a limited edition batch of the liquor that comes with a live Metallica playlist. More info here.
