The New BARREN EARTH (MOONSORROW, KREATOR, Etc.) Song Is Low, Slow And Melodic

Get your fix of melodic death metal downtempo right here, right now.

Get your fix of melodic death metal downtempo right here, right now.

Barren Earth has been around since 2007, yet they have completely been off my radar, until now.

For starters, I had no idea that there are some pretty big names in Barren Earth! The band consists of bassist Olli-Pekka Laine (Mannhai, ex-Amorphis), drummer Marko Tarvonen (Moonsorrow), guitarists Sami Yli-Sirniö (Kreator) and Janne Perttilä (Põhjast), keyboardist Kasper Mårtenson (Turisas [live only], ex-Amorphis) and vocalist Jón Aldará (Clouds, Hamferð). Seriously, how has this lineup not been talked about before and their collective albums been properly heralded?

Barren Earth is about to drop its third record On Lonely Towers come Mar. 24 and you're about to hear why that matters via "A Shapeless Derelict" below.

The only thing wrong with this song is that it ends. "A Shapeless Derelict" is the perfect blend of melodic death metal, doom and atmospheric work. It's like Insomnium and Opeth had a baby whose best friend is the child of slowed down, old In Flames and newer Borknagar. Yes please!
