The Bay Area will always be known as the birthplace of thrash metal, but more recently, it has become a hotbed for tons of promising young technical death metal acts. WRVTH, formerly known as Wrath of Vesuvius is one of these bands, and similar to fellow Bay Area shredders Fallujah, they achieve a striking balance between tech death wankery and stark atmospherics that is both violent and beautiful at the same time. No Clean Singing has premiered a new song from their forthcoming self-titled album called "Harrowing Winds," and it is indeed harrowing, albeit in good way.
"Harrowing Winds" is deceiving in that in begins with a very subdued, atmospheric guitar passage before taking off into a cacophony of sonic chaos. This is not an easy balance to achieve well, but WRVTH seem to have it nailed down. The musicianship is very impressive, and like almost all of the other Bay Area-based tech death bands, the album was produced by Zack Ohren, which means it sounds awesome too. I can't wait to hear the rest of the album.
WRVTH will be out on June 16 via Unique Leader records.
