NOCTAMBULIST Expose The Emptiness Within The Barren Form

Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

Another week, another early stream for an awesome Willowtip Records release to share with everyone. This time I've got the early album stream from Noctambulist for you all to check out today. The group's second full-length, The Barren Form, will see release this Friday, July 2nd, through Willowtip Records.

If you're new to the group, Noctambulist is a dissonant-minded technical death metal group from Denver, Colorado boasting a verifiably blackened darkness within their sound. The group's 2019 debut album, Atmospheres of Desolation, dropped through Blood Harvest and made a serious impression in the scene for a new group people didn't know of prior. Although I didn't get to cover that effort, I did check it out based on the buzz I heard, and I wasn't disappointed. That was certainly a factor that made me check out The Barren Form and ultimately led me to sign up to help this year given how good their new album is.

As is often the case, it's really the subtle factors at play that shape the quality and uniqueness of a release like The Barren Form. If you spelled out on paper how this is akin to groups the band cites (and others I hear in it but are not cited by the band, to be fair) when jamming it like Ulcerate, Disgorge, Hate Eternal, Gigan, Svartidaudi, and Isis, you wouldn't be wrong. But it would take a lot longer to try to pin down why this release is so special, and that would still fail really. Hearing is believing, and I'll be damned if this isn't very much an album worth your undivided attention.

Your best bet is to check out the full album below and give it a couple of spins to really let it sink in. If you like what you're hearing after checking out The Barren Form, pre-orders can be placed here and here. You can follow the group over on the Noctambulist Facebook Page.
