Hey there, tech fiends. It's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual weekly reminder that if you're looking for even more sick bands to hear, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.
Once again I've got an early full stream for you from a truly phenomenal band, this week that is going to be the 2nd album from Quebec City natives Deviant Process. The group will be releasing their 2nd album, Nurture via Season of Mist this Friday.
Deviant Process is a band I've been covering since 2016 over at No Clean Singing (And also here in this space as well when I did the early full stream of their debut album, Paroxysm) and I'm not surprised at all the Canadian group has found a way to up the ante this go around in spite of already dropping some top-notch shit few can match on Paroxysm.
So let's back up a bit for everyone that doesn't know the band and explain a few things. The group has been around since 2009, they first dropped a two-song EP in 2011 called Narcissistic Rage which put the group on my radar even if it was not widely heard by the scene. Then in 2016, they dropped their debut album, Paroxysm, and I was lucky enough to catch them live in Montreal in 2018 as well after it came out.
But beyond all of that, their members shared important connections in other notable groups covered here like The Aftermath and Solinaris which made abundantly clear to me that Deviant Process was a multi-headed hydra, a group with several proficient songwriters all with different focuses and strengths. This is an important gift that gives them a real edge over many of their peers in the tech-death world. The common thread between all of their member's projects is a mix of old and new death metal in a technical/progressive vein, unpredictability in stylistic and songwriting terms, and a desire to forge their own path in ways that a normal for fans of list sort of fails to truly get to the heart of what music this special is all about.
For a bit more additional information on Nurture, Deviant Process shared with me that: "We're really happy to see this record hit the internet after having worked on it for over 5 years now. We hope people feel the journey we've been through and appreciate all the emotions we spilled into this album. We're eternally grateful for the trust Season Of Mist has put in us and for Metal Injection for having promoted our music since the release of Paroxysm."
As good as Deviant Process – Paroxysm was, their 2nd album we are premiering here today called Nurture makes it even clearer this is a group with a lot of interesting and killer ideas to offer. I think the simplest way to put it is that on Nurture, Deviant Process delivers on the idea of a tech-death band focused on progressive death metal, on a level few if any bands do. If you don't believe me, just jam the full album through our exclusive embed below a few times. I guarantee you it's a more interesting and fresh listen than the new Obscura record. Pre-orders for Deviant Process – Nurture can be placed here and here. You can also follow the band over on the Deviant Process Facebook Page.
