Oakland's Mondo Drag play a heavy and proggy brand of psych music. The group relocated to Oakland by way of Iowa, and the move has seen to done a number on their music. Since the move, they have been heavily influenced by groups such as King Crimson, Goblin, Magma, and Yes. The cosmic quintet have ventured into the realm of expanding their sonic range and are looking to explore new areas they haven't before on their upcoming album, The Occultation of Light, which is due for release on February 26th through Riding Easy Records.
We are lucky enough to have for you a premiere of a new song from this impeding album. The album's first, and aptly titled, track, "Initiation". The song is five and a half minutes of soul warming psychedelic rock that serves as a tasty sample for what the rest of The Occultation of Light holds. "Initiation" is groovy and infectious in execution, highlighted by lengthy guitar riffs and spacey synths and organ.
