This is Lou Reed/Metallica two-in-one post. First off, the band performed on Later… with Jools Holland yesterday, and if you are really into torturing yourself, or staring at train wrecks that you can't look away from, then this clip is for you! The band performs "Iced Honey," the same track that Darren Aronofsky is going to make a music video for, and pretty much the only coherent song on Lulu.
Speaking of Lulu, now that it's been a week since the album has been released, we have sales figures, and they aren't pretty. The album sold just 13,000 copies, which is shy of their projected 15,000 sales. Now sure, if you're a band like say Skeletonwitch, 13k first week is a huge number. But when you're fucking Metallica AND Lou Reed, expectations are a bit higher. In comparison, Megadeth's new album, TH1RT3EN, which came out last week as well, sold 43,000 copies. Dave Mustaine's got to be feeling good right now, even if he beat Metallica on a technicality. But, like I mentioned on the podcast, Metallica isn't treating this like a true release, but more of a side project. There has been no push from the band, no promotion, no touring, just press releases. They probably would say they really just did this for themselves, and didn't care about sales. Well, I wished they could've just spared us and never bothered releasing this atrocity.
