Is The New BUTCHER BABIES Song Really That Bad?

I mean, it's not great, but it's not that bad.

I mean, it's not great, but it's not that bad.

One common thread amongst musicians and people who work in the industry is when you ask them if their friends' band is actually good and the person responds "oh, they're a bunch of great guys," it's a polite way of saying that the music sucks, but the people who make it are cool.

That's sort of how I feel about Butcher Babies. We met them at the Mayhem Fest a few years back and I was taken aback at how laid back and humble they were. They were so nice to us it almost makes me wish their music was more palatable to me.

Look, I'm not going to sit here and say I listen to these guys. The last time I saw them, I found myself going to bar ASAP. But, there seems to be an audience there. Now, our friends at MetalSucks asked if their new single, just released is the worst metal song of the year? When they say worst, they mean worst song by a band signed to a relatively major label. We've seen plenty of bad unsigned bands.

Surprise Surprise! We're thrilled to finally release our brand new song #MonstersBall! Keep your eyes peeled for pre-order bundles and a new music video coming soon!

I took a listen to the track, and while I can't see myself ever going out of my way to play it again, it actually seems like an improvement from their previous, unbearable music. Is this really any different than the second rate nu-metal that came out in the early aughts? Not really. These guys just sound like a local opener you would see when showing up early for a Crowbar show or something. I'm sure the fact that there are two attractive women screaming up front helps them get a bit further than just being a local opener. And, dare I say… the chorus is kinda catchy. Don't kill me! But what do you think?

Butcher Babies' Take It Like A Man (ugh, really?) is out August 21st.
