Iconic Decline of Western Civilization Documentary Trilogy Getting Blu-Ray Release This Summer

A must-watch for music fans.

A must-watch for music fans.

One of the all-time great heavy metal documentaries is Decline of Western Civilization Part II. It defined the 80s for me, featuring moments with KISS, Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth, and the infamous scene with Chris Holmes of WASP. It was just glorious and one of the inspirations for Metal Injection in general. The prequel, which focused on the hardcore punk scene of the 80s with bands like Black Flag and X was also good but for different reasons. And, I always wanted to check out the third part of the series focusing on crust punks but could never find it anywhere.

Thankfully, all of our dreams are coming true, because the triology is going to be released this summer in a special box set on BluRay and DVD on June 30th. You can pre-order it here. The re-release will be a four-disc anthology with a 40-page book, extended interviews and a new commentary track by Dave Grohl, never before seen performances and interviews and other goodies. Each film has also been given a 2K high-definition restoration. Director Penelope Spheeris supervised the entire thing, so you know it's legit.

I honestly couldn't be more excited. Here are some of my favorite moments from the film:
