Akercocke released five albums between 1999 and 2007, stayed together until 2012, and then called it quits. The band's allure back in the day was that they were suit-wearing Satanists, though nobody could quite pinpoint exactly what they were up to since the Internet didn't exist in the capacity that it does today. Even so,the music was really, really damn good!
Akercocke is back now with Renaissance in Extremis, which vocalist Jason Mendonca tells Noisey is a result of changing circumstances for the band members.
"Broadly speaking, it was circumstance. Circumstances changed and I think, individually we're all in a position where we all have enough time to devote to the band to give it the kind of love and attention that it needs and that was certainly a factor that was lacking prior to the reformation. There wasn't time or certainly wasn't time to do it properly, and I think now there is, which is fantastic!"
Renaissance In Extremis is out this Friday, and you can pre-order a copy here.
