CLOAK OF ALTERING'S "Parasitic Altering Sickness" Will Make Your Skin Crawl

In a year loaded with menacing one-man black metal projects, let this be the bleak conclusion to that list in 2015.

In a year loaded with menacing one-man black metal projects, let this be the bleak conclusion to that list in 2015.

Mories is a busy man. The Dutch one-man metal menace goes by many aliases. You may know him as Gnaw Their Tongues, Aderlating, Pyriphlegethon, and Seirom among others. He has released music under all of these mentioned guises in 2015 thus far and is rounding out the year with a few more releases, including one as another alias, Cloak of Altering.

Cloak of Altering is Mories’ avant-garde/experimental black metal endeavor. As with all of his music, it is horrifically gripping. Rife with disparaging noise and haunting spoken word laced through the layers of terror, Mories’ music evokes a sense of dread. This is evermore apparent on the featured track to Cloak of Altering’s impending album, Manifestation. “Parasitic Altering Sickness” draws to mind an earlier release from this year from another one-man project, Mastery. His album, VALIS, is one of the more extreme and visceral releases I have heard this year and “Parasitic Altering Sickness” leads me to believe that Cloak of Altering’s Manifestation will follow a similar suit.

“Parasitic Altering Sickness” is almost seven minutes of unrelenting, blackened fright and is worthy of of the potential night terrors.

Alienating at first but then suddenly inspiring, Cloak of Altering is not a band to be taken lightly.
