A good cover in heavy metal is an artform. If you just take a song and perform it as is, then what's the point? Bands need to make it their own.
I think Aborted released two solid covers recently on the deluxe edition of their fantastic new album, The Necrotic Manifesto. If you haven't heard the album yet, we highly recommend checking it out (full album stream here). It will definitely make my personal year end list.
Anyway, the band covered the Converge classic "Concubine" and other than that signature riff, I would barely recognize it:
