Dave Grohl's new feature-length documentary, What Drives Us, has an official release date. It will be out on April 30th through The Coda Collection, a channel on Amazon Prime Video.

The documentary explores why musicians decide to put their life on hold, get in a van and start playing music with their friends. It explores the bonds and the art created on the road.

“This film is my love letter to every musician that has ever jumped in an old van with their friends and left it all behind for the simple reward of playing music,” Grohl says in a press statement. “What started as a project to pull back the curtain on the DIY logistics of stuffing all of your friends and equipment into a small space for months on end eventually turned into an exploration of ‘why? What drives us?'”

The film features interviews with  St. Vincent, Ringo Starr, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea, Slayer’s Dave Lombardo, U2’s The Edge, Ben Harper, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, L7’s Jennifer Finch, AC/DC’s Brian Johnson, Fugazi/Minor Threat’s Ian MacKaye, Guns N’ Roses’ Slash and Duff McKagan and focuses on two up and coming bands – Starcrawler and Radkey as they travel the road.
