Bradley Cooper stars, co-wrote and directed a new film called A Star Is Born, and he noted that seeing Metallica live was a big inspiration for the film.

The film, which is a remake for a 1937 film of the same name sees Cooper as an alcoholic musician who discovers and falls in love with a young singer played by Lady Gaga. Speaking to Variety, he explained the Metallica influence:

"I'm a huge fan of Metallica. About six years ago I was at Metallica concert [standing behind the drum kit] and I saw the scope of it… and thought, wow, this composition is incredible and that's what it feels to be on stage, to be a rock star… So in the movie you're always on the stage."

Coincidentally, Cooper, who is friends with Metallica's Lars Ulrich, was the one who introduced the band to Lady Gaga at a party – which eventually led to Gaga collaborating with Metallica at the Grammys.

A Star Is Born is out in the US on October 5th.
