Drumming Grandma's Identity Revealed

Last Friday, one geriatric drumming shredder captured the internet's attention when we posted the "Grandma Shreds On Drums" video but not much was known about the woman. Until now!

The internet has enquired and a local news station tracked down the woman, named Mary Hvizda.

Turns out the 63-year-old from Onalaska, WI was in a bunch of bands when she was younger and was introduced to the drums by her older brother when she was 15 years old. Hvizda claimed to be in the first all-girl rock band in La Crosse, WI and was in a dozen rock bands until 1990 when her last band broke up.

After her last band broke up, she sold her drum kit and would occasionally go into instrumental stores since to keep up with her chops.

“It makes me proud to think that people still think I'm somewhat good and still think I'm still something they're interested in watching,” said Hvizda.

So sweet. Turns out Mary is not actually a grandma as she has never been married and has no children. There is a happy ending to this story as the Coalition Drum Shop, the place where her viral video was filmed recently sent her a complimentary drum kit. Here is the local news report:

Keep rockin' Mary!
