Dave Mustaine Says Everyone In MEGADETH Must Submit Song Ideas To The Label & Management

The logic actually makes sense.

The logic actually makes sense.

Megadeth is currently hoping to hit the studio later this year for the first time with ex-Soilwork drummer Dirk Verbeuren. Frontman Dave Mustaine has shed a little light on the band's writing process for the new material, as well as the old stuff, where he says everyone who pretty much isn't him has to submit song ideas to management and the label to get approved.

“Yeah, everybody does—everybody has great ideas. The problem is there’s so many great ideas. So, for me, I learned a long time ago, instead of putting our friendship on the line and cause any problems between them and myself that when they submit songs and stuff, they just submit it to management and the label, and then, you know, if they like it… ‘Cause, see, it would suck—wouldn’t it?—if they had a great song and I heard it and I was busy during the day or I had something going on that was some kind of hectic bullshit and they played this great song for me and I didn’t hear it and it was gone forever. That would suck, wouldn’t it?”

I guess it works to some extent though, right? Super Collider and Dystopia both had three tracks on them that weren't written solely by Mustaine, though it does seem like it takes the whole "jamming in a room together on new material" element out of the equation a bit. Plus, I can't imagine that information is revealed to members after they joined – it seems like an integral part of the writing process.

On that same sentiment, Dystopia was probably one of the best albums Megadeth has ever done, so why fix it if it ain't broken?
