Last week we reported on a fairly substantial rumor that Black Sabbath would be dying a proper death with two final shows in the place where its career all started – Birmingham. The rumor came about with a flyer a fan found and posted to Twitter, and it turns out that he flyer is 100% accurate. The band will be playing a few shows around the UK before closing out its incredibly illustrious career with two nights in Birmingham.
The band released the following statement, which makes a point to name the three members participating in the last two shows. Bill Ward's name still doesn't make an appearance in the band's lineup but maybe they'll surprise everyone and get him in there for the final two shows? If not, that's pretty shitty.
“It started nearly five decades ago with a crack of thunder, a distant bell ringing and then that monstrous riff that shook the earth. The heaviest rock sound ever heard.
In that moment, heavy metal was born, created by a young band from Birmingham, England, barely out of their teens.
Now it ends – the final eight shows ever by the greatest metal band of all time, Black Sabbath. Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler return home to close the final chapter in the final volume of the incredible Black Sabbath story.”
