A side project between Alice In Chains frontman Jerry Cantrell and Metallica frontman James Hetfield isn't exactly on either man's schedule right now, but it's also not out of the question. In an interview with Metal Hammer, Cantrell revealed that he's spent some time with Hetfield jamming at his house, and even stayed over a night or two.
"James and I have talked about it, kind of. We never had a formal conversation but I've jammed with him at Kirk's [Hammett, Metallica guitarist] place. I've even spent a night or two at his house, and we've ended up with guitars in the kitchen and on the porch. It's something I'd be really curious about, even to just write a song with him. As for whether it'd turn into something more than that, he's got a pretty demanding day job. Ha ha! So I'd understand if it never comes to be."
Cantrell and Hetfield have only teamed up once in studio, that being for a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Tuesday's Gone" for Metallica's 1998 covers album Garage Inc. Cantrell and Hetfield are both clearly comfortable going acoustic, so maybe we could get an acoustic album from the duo? Surely that would rule.
At the very least, we know Cantrell and Hetfield can gel just fine on stage as you'll see from footage over the years below.
