Every month, Decibel scribe Shane Mehling reviews the four videos that appear in the monthly metal mag. under “Decibel’s Clips of the Month at Metal Injection.” This month, watch picks from Converge, Gojira, Insomnium, and an Autopsy Classic Clip.

Converge – “All We Love We Leave Behind”

All right, let’s see here. A guy is holding a dead, cartoon dog and a house is on fire. Wait, the dead cartoon dog turned into a cartoon comet and burrowed into the earth, and now the guy’s been taken prisoner by a tree? There’s another five minutes of this? I won’t say anything else until something happens I understand. Oh, the cartoon dog’s back and it’s alive. And more of the tree thing. Okay, it’s over.

Gojira – “Born in Winter”

Well, shit. Again, somehow, there’s a weird cartoon comet, but this time it’s in space and it’s a weird geometric shape. And now it just flew past the pyramid on the back of money. In space. Wait, it hit something and now a universe is being created? No, now it’s a baby? Hold on, it’s both, but also some weird tattoo flash? You understand I’m essentially just watching a bunch of Rorschach inkblots for your benefit, right?

Insomnium – “While We Sleep”

Finally, a sense of sanity. Right off the bat, a woman is lost and confused, and I bet at some point will meet someone or something that freaks her out. Like a warm blanket, this is your standard beautiful woman placed in a scary, surreal situation, juxtaposed with the band playing in front of a foggy brick wall. Wait a second: She’s now putting on some crazy costumes and posing? Has the scary, surreal, freaky someone actually been inside her this whole time? Wow, really makes you think.

CLASSIC CLIP: Autopsy – “My Corpse Shall Rise”

The opening shot of this (a tombstone that reads “Autopsy 1987-1994 R.I.P.”) already makes this the best video of the month. But it gets so much better when black and white studio footage is interspersed with black and white studio footage that is now engulfed in flames. And we’re talking, like, promo for Truckasaurus at the Derby Dome kind of flames. Also, if you want to know how intense Chris Reifert’s drumming is, he has a shirt on when he starts playing, and it evaporates after 27 seconds.
