Before Matt Heafy was the frontman of a world-renowned band like Trivium, he was in a bunch of shitty bands just like the rest of us. Matt posted a live demo of his former black metal project, Mindscar on his personal blog and it's interesting to hear some of his early work. It sounds very much like Floridian death metal influenced black metal. In his original post, Matt states that he's "on rhythms and leads (alongside Richie [Brown, an original member of Trivium] who is also doing main vocals/rhythm.leads), [Matt] perform[s] backup death vocals and clean vocals." This decade-old clip is from a 2002 performance at the FBI in Orlando. I have to say, if this was just a no-named band sending this in, I most likely wouldn't give it the time of day, but it's always interesting to see the roots of established musicians. While overall this isn't the best song in the world, there is some decent songwriting, showing specs of the future. What do you think of the demo?
