Hey all! It's your friendly neighborhood metalhead Lauryn. Because being a metalhead (even a really good metalhead) doesn't pay the rent, I'm forced to use my higher education on a job at a hospital. As an essential employee, my work life has become more intense and stressful. On any given day, I am over informed, under prepared, or doing the best I can to keep myself, and my patients, safe. You can imagine how I'd I want to unwind when I get home. My preferred way to decompress is to mix up an old fashioned cocktail and pop on this playlist I've complied.

This mostly metal list is full of some of my all-time favorite songs that I keep coming back to time and time again. I can sing, dance, thrash, and deep-dive into each carefully selected track. From Opeth to AFI, Phantogram to Pat Benatar, each song lights a fire within. May they inspire you, as they do for me, to grab a drink and forget about the news, social media, and any other pesky thought that might be living in your brain rent-free. Life is too short to not listen to music that transports you somewhere exciting, expressive, cathartic, and indulgent.
