Paul Kott has fired up this Bay Area supergroup once again, his brother's untimely passing in 2007 put it off the road for the last decade. Matt Pike and John Brookhouse guest on this awesome slab of psychedelicized doom. In the past members of bands like Melvins, Hawkwind, Men of Porn and others have chimed in. OK, kids: I totally used to play ambient Bigfoot alleged-field recordings regularly on my previous radio program and I know Aaron Turner used to listen (and SUMAC performed live on my show even) so I am going to go ahead and take complete credit for this breakthrough in sampling haha. This track opens with twigs snapping and some sasquatchian groans before barrelling in with a glorious return of the Old Man Gloom. With not one but TWO albums coming in May. I just hope Bigfoot gets a check!!!

From the forthcoming Realm of Ash and Blood (20 Buck Spin, March 27), huge tectonic plates of dissonant doom chords ring through the cosmos flanked by equally off-kilter death growl vox. Finland's Solothus play on a grand scale, crushing while playing up space and mysticism. A lot of forces of nature at work, but like the universe itself harmony and chaos transgress into a wholly otherwordly identity.
