You have to hand it to Suicide Silence. They know how to pick who will guest on their album. It was revealed earlier this week in a press release that their new album, The Black Crown will feature guest appearances from two sources. Korn's Jonathan Davis sings the hook on the track "Witness The Addiction" and Suffocation's Frank Mullen will make (to my knowledge) his first non-Suffo vocal appearance on a track called "Smashed."
I was able to hear both tracks when the band was in our studio for last week's edition of the RIP a Livecast. The Frank Mullen track is absolutely ridiculous. He is bar-none the best death metal vocalist around and he absolutely kills in during his parts, and his vocal styling and Mitch's mesh very well. As for the Jonathan Davis track, it is a very killer, djent-like track that (in my opinion) goes downhill the second Davis starts signing. Still, I recognize that the track will be something that Korn fans will eat right up, and maybe it will help those kids get into Suicide Silence, and then fall further down the death metal rabbit hole, eventually landing on a band like Suffocation.
Either way, the new Suicide Silence album, The Black Crown is set to hit stores July 12th.
