Itâs Monday and Mondays suck, so letâs grind it out with The Killâs Make âEm Suffer.
Yeah I know I usually have something from the current year for the column, but Iâm on a bender with The Killâs discography. Album after album, this band keeps getting better and better. Though Iâm curious as to their album writing status since vocalist Nik Kennedy allegedly left the band in 2016. Whatever, youâre here for the music, I hope. It canât be for my sunny disposition.
The Kill formed back in 2001 but only really cranked out some records (splits mostly) between 2011 and 2013. Theyâve done stuff with Antigama, Noisear, The Communion, Captain Cleanoff, and the almighty White Eyes (a band I should really feature here sometime), among others. The Kill could be described as a marriage of early Napalm Death meets early Slayer meets Agoraphobic Nosebleed with a healthy sense of Insect Warfare. Itâs a mash-up of the best grind out there.
Make âEm Suffer was their 2012 full-length debut. The album is sixteen unrelenting tracks of mayhem, humor and blasts for miles. This is kind of like a band that schools the scene while also making fun. The album opens up with âCactusâ, kicking in with some noise, some feedback, and some slow drumming before firing on all cylinders and grinding everything into a pulp.
See, The Kill doesnât know how to take it easy or slow down. So, youâd think all the tracks would just spit out incoherent gibberish/noise. Incoherent or gibberish, no. But itâs pretty goddamn noisy. The album just never slows down. Track after track drummer Jay Jones and guitarist Roby Polzella and burning their instruments to dust. The biggest stretches of downtime during this record are when songs break for mere seconds or tracks switch. And yet, the album is constantly exciting. When tracks like âFuckin Doyleâ hit, itâs like the eighteenth adrenaline shot so far.
The piece on here that any metalhead is going to recognize is when that âNecrophobicâ cover hits. And oh man, is that thing juicy. Beat for beat, thrash for thrash, riff for riff, this thing is spot on insanity. Hell, I like it more than the original.
Make âEm Suffer is an album you know youâll love or hate after the first track. If thrashy, chaotic grind is your thing, youâre going to devour The Killâs discography in a matter of days. Make âEm Suffer is a ripper through and through. Itâs a grind album by grind lovers, for grind lovers. So blast beat your Monday away with this beast.
I'm here.
