Dave Mustaine Explains Why Everyone Quit MEGADETH Last Year

Spoiler: It's everybody's fault but Dave Mustaine's

Last year drummer Shawn Drover and guitarist Chris Broderick up and quit Megadeth, seemingly out of nowhere. It was a big blow to the band considering Dave Mustaine had been talking about a new record, though with Megadeth being what it is, finding new members wasn't difficult. Still though! Having people leave must suck.

Now Mustaine is talking a little bit about Drover and Broderick's departure from the group, though he doesn't seem to think it's his fault.

"There was talk of a reunion, but I didn't want that, as much as the fans might want that, and the management that we just fired wanted it. The two guys that left were, I believe, unfairly treated by management: they didn't even say goodbye to me — that's how badly they were spoken to — and for that I'm sad. We spent a lot of years together and I wish them well."

Drover and Broderick's new band, Act of Defiance, is already making waves. I wonder if Mustaine has reached out to them about this at all? Or if he's just telling his side of the story and we'll get some lengthy statements from the two about how this statement is complete and total bullshit. Similar stories came from Mustaine about why the reunion with Menza and Freidman fell apart, with bassist David Ellefson even saying he had to play bad cop in the scenario while Nick Menza said it was basically all about money.

Mustaine is hard at work on a new Megadeth album, which will feature Lamb of God's Chris Adler on drums and a guest appearance from a country singer.
