John Darnielle, leader of the legendary folk-ish band The Mountain Goats, is a massive metal head. If you've ever listened to the podcast I Only Listen To The Mountain Goats or read anything he'd written (or just paid attention to the guy), you'd know he references fairly obscure metal bands quite a bit. He also paid homage to death metal, as well as having your youth stripped from you, on his song "The Best Ever Death Metal Band In Denton" off his 2002 album All Hail West Texas.
Darnielle and company were joined for that specific song on stage at The Orpheum in Ybor City, FL on September 1 by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Ripping Corpse, ex-Morbid Angel), who soloed the ever-loving hell out of the track. Darnielle also references Ripping Corpse in the song's then-revised lyrics, because of course he did.
